Use “C’est”
= This is / That is / It is
Use C’est when:
- Followed by a noun
➤ C’est un professeur. (He is a teacher.)
➤ C’est une bonne idée. (That’s a good idea.) - Followed by a name
➤ C’est Marie. (This is Marie.) - Followed by an article + adjective + noun
➤ C’est un homme intelligent. (He is a smart man.)

Use “Il est / Elle est”
= He is / She is / It is
Use Il/Elle est when:
- Followed by an adjective only
➤ Il est gentil. (He is kind.)
➤ Elle est belle. (She is beautiful.) - Talking about professions, nationalities, religions without article
➤ Il est médecin. (He is a doctor.)
➤ Elle est française. (She is French.)
